Translation

Next is told the fourteenth parva, the Ashvamedhika. Here is the excellent tale of Samvarta and Marutta and the finding of the golden treasure [for the sacrifice]; the birth of Parikshit, who, burned by the fire of the weapon (brahmastra) while yet in the womb, was revived again by Krishna. Here is the horse released for its sacrificial wandering, followed by Arjuna, and his battles here and there with wrathful princes; and how Babhruvahana, Arjuna's son by Chitrangada, the heiress-daughter, placed his father in mortal danger. At the great horse sacrifice [is told] also the tale of the mongoose (teaching the superiority of humble giving). Such is the wondrous Ashvamedhika-parva: one hundred thirty-three chapters and three thousand three hundred twenty verses.
