Translation

Next they tell the Stri-parva, filled with sorrow. Recalled here is the most piteous lament of the heroes' wives, and the wrath, followed by the mercy, of Gandhari and Dhritarashtra, when they saw those valiant kshatriyas — sons, brothers, and fathers — who had met their appointed end and fallen in battle without retreating. Here the wise king (Yudhishthira), best of the upholders of dharma, ordered the bodies of the kings burned according to the prescriptions of the shastras. Such is the eleventh parva, great and most sorrowful: twenty-seven chapters and seven hundred seventy-five verses composed by the great author; [this narrative] draws forth tears and anguish from the hearts of the good.
