The Karna-parva closes with the fall of Karna — a tragic hero whose valor and generosity were boundless yet wrongly directed. His loyalty to the wicked Duryodhana and his envy of the Pandavas doomed him: in the fateful hour his chariot wheel sank into the earth — the fruit of curses born of his own past misdeeds. Thus scripture teaches: neither courage nor generosity saves one who serves adharma and stands against the Lord's devotees. The strife between Karna and Shalya shows that the army of the wicked is torn from within, while the Pandavas are bound together by a single devotion to Krishna. And the anger between Yudhishthira and Arjuna, calmed by Krishna, reminds us that even the righteous need the Lord to keep peace among themselves.
