The thirteenth year of exile is the year of concealment (ajñāta-vāsa), when the great heroes live unrecognized as servants at Virāṭa's court. In this lies a profound lesson in humility: even the mighty Pāṇḍavas, protected by Kṛṣṇa, accept humiliation for the sake of dharma and their given word. Bhīma, who guarded Draupadī's honor by slaying the insolent Kīcaka, shows the duty to protect the helpless and the pure. And Arjuna's single-handed victory over the entire Kaurava army during the cattle raid shows that where dharma and devotion are, there too is power from above. The marriage of Abhimanyu and Uttarā ties the thread that leads to Parīkṣit — the future hearer of the Bhāgavatam. Thus the Lord unseen weaves the fabric of events for the triumph of His devotees.
