अथ अनेन एव ये च एतस्मात् अर्वाञ्चः लोकाः तांश् च आप्नोति मनुष्यकामांश् च तस्मात् उ ह एवंविद् उद्गाता ब्रूयात्

and through this one, the worlds that are on this side and the desires of men. Therefore let an udgātṛ who knows thus say [to the sacrificer]:

The second range: anenaiva — "through this one [the ocular]" — the worlds on this side and human aims are attained: the knower's song serves both of the Lord's audience-chambers, the heavenly office and the earthly.
tasmād u haivaṁ-vid udgātā brūyāt — "therefore let the udgātṛ who knows thus say [to the sacrificer]…": there follows the question set out in the next verse — a question only a singer sure of delivery can put: only those who can deliver a wish ask what it is. So the khaṇḍa passes from theology to professional ethics: the knowledge of the Puruṣa in the sun and in the eye is the priest's qualification, and it earns him the right to that bold "what shall I sing for you?"
