The Bhūman is proclaimed on all six sides: below, above, behind, in front, right, left — he is. There is nowhere to turn without meeting him: the definition "where one sees nothing else" is unfolded into a living practice of the gaze: look where you will — he is there.
And then a dizzying transition: the ahaṁkārādeśa, "the instruction by way of 'I'": "I am below, I am above… I am all this". Who speaks this "I"? Not Nārada's self-appointed ego but that core of the soul which is of one nature with the Bhūman: a spark is allowed to pronounce the words of the fire, so as to feel its own fieriness. But the Upaniṣad at once insures against megalomania: this "I"-lesson is only a middle rung; the next verse will give the definitive redaction — by way of the ātman. Between "He is all" and "I am all" a correct third will be set.
