तौ ह द्वात्रिंशतम् वर्षाणि ब्रह्मचर्यम् ऊषतुः तौ ह प्रजापतिः उवाच किम् इच्छन्तौ अवास्तम् इति तौ ह ऊचतुः यः आत्मा अपहतपाप्मा विजरः विमृत्युः विशोकः विजिघत्सः अपिपासः सत्यकामः सत्यसंकल्पः सः अन्वेष्टव्यः सः विजिज्ञासितव्यः सः सर्वांश् च लोकान् आप्नोति सर्वांश् च कामान् यः तम् आत्मानम् अनुविद्य विजानाति इति भगवतः वचः वेदयन्ते तम् इच्छन्तौ अवास्तम् इति

tau ha dvātriṃśatam varṣāṇi brahmacaryam ūṣatuḥ tau ha prajāpatiḥ uvāca kim icchantau avāstam iti tau ha ūcatuḥ yaḥ ātmā apahatapāpmā vijaraḥ vimṛtyuḥ viśokaḥ vijighatsaḥ apipāsaḥ satyakāmaḥ satyasaṃkalpaḥ saḥ anveṣṭavyaḥ saḥ vijijñāsitavyaḥ saḥ sarvāṃś ca lokān āpnoti sarvāṃś ca kāmān yaḥ tam ātmānam anuvidya vijānāti iti bhagavataḥ vacaḥ vedayante tam icchantau avāstam iti

Translation

For thirty-two years they lived in brahmacarya. Prajāpati asked: "Desiring what have you lived here?" They answered: "'The ātman, free from evil, ageless, deathless, sorrowless, hungerless, thirstless, whose desires are true, whose resolves are true — he should be sought, he should be striven after in knowledge; he obtains all the worlds and all desires who, having found this ātman, knows him' — such is your reverence's word, as it is reported. Desiring him we have lived here."
