The midday song of the door, with a new measure: vairājyāya — "for the sake of vairājya", wide and sovereign dominion (virāj is a royal breadth!): the morning asked for rājya, kingship; noon asks for vairājya, a dominion poured out to the full width of the zenith.
The ladder of petitions is built by the sun: the higher the hour, the wider what is asked: of the terrible Rudras of noon one asks not peace but scope. A lesson in the boldness of prayer: ask in proportion to the hour: at the day's zenith, ask zenith things; small petitions in great hours are a discourtesy to the door you are opening.
