अथ यः अस्य दक्षिणः सुषिः सः व्यानः तत् श्रोत्रम् सः चन्द्रमाः तत् एतत् श्रीः च यशः च इति उपासीत श्रीमान् यशस्वी भवति यः एवम् वेद

Translation
Its southern gate is the vyāna; that is hearing, that is the moon. One should venerate it as "prosperity and fame". Prosperous and famous becomes he who knows thus.

The southern gate: the vyāna — hearing — the moon: the middle breath (the one on which mighty deeds are performed — 1.3!), the ear, and the mistress of the night: the gate of listening. Its veneration is śrīś ca yaśaś ca — "prosperity and fame".
The connection is fine: fame comes by hearing (of the famous one hears!), prosperity by the moon (mistress of saps and tides): the heart's southern gates have charge of what is said about us and of what flows toward us. He who keeps them clean is famous without soliciting.
