Translation
Its northern gate is the samāna; that is the mind, that is Parjanya. One should venerate it as "fame and flowering". Famous and flourishing becomes he who knows thus.

The northern gate: the samāna — the mind — Parjanya: the equalising breath (which distributes food evenly — the Praśna!), the manas, and the god of rain: the gate of inward distribution and of heavenly moisture. Its veneration is kīrtiś ca vyuṣṭiś ca — "fame and flowering" (vyuṣṭi is "daybreak, blossoming"!).
The mind at the gate of the samāna is an exact neighbouring: the mind's business is to even out and distribute impressions, as the samāna does the saps and Parjanya the rains: an even mind is an inward rain under which everything blossoms. The fruit of the northern gate is kīrti and vyuṣṭi: good report and a flourishing look: a man of even mind has the face of daybreak.
