"Moonlight on Drama" — Rūpa Gosvāmī's handbook on how a play is built. Drawing on Bharata's Nāṭya-śāstra and the Rasārṇava-sudhākara, Rūpa briefly defines the hero, the prologue, the five junctures of the action and their sixty-four limbs, the intermediate links, the thirty-six ornaments, the connecting scenes, the languages of the characters and the four modes of presentation. Nearly all his examples come from his own plays, the Lalita-mādhava and the Vidagdha-mādhava, so that the theory of drama becomes a study of the pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.
