Traducción
"When I heard that in the battle between Karna and Ghatotkacha, the son of the suta (Karna) had spent the very spear by which Savyasachin (Arjuna) would have been slain in battle -- then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."

Karna is forced to spend his one infallible spear -- meant for Arjuna -- on Ghatotkacha. Thus Krishna's design strips the enemy of his surest weapon against Arjuna. The Lord disarms in advance whatever threatens His devotee: no weapon raised against dear Hari can reach its mark unless He wills it. Hidden within Ghatotkacha's seeming sacrifice is a victory -- Arjuna's deliverance for the sake of the higher design.
