A believer (astika) who constantly attends to this introductory chapter does not lose heart amid trials. Hearing the sacred word about the Lord strengthens the soul and gives fortitude amid adversity: where there is faith and hari-katha, there is no room for despair. Faith — astikya — is stressed again: it alone makes hearing fruitful and guards the heart from the despondency into which Dhritarashtra, lacking it, fell.
