Whoever, having purified himself, reads this chapter on every festival day, by him — such is my opinion — the whole 'Bharata' is studied entire.

Reading this one introductory chapter on festival days is deemed equal to studying the whole Mahabharata. This again confirms that the anukramani chapter holds the essence of the entire epic. For one who has no opportunity to master the whole immense work, an accessible path is given: to turn to this core with purity and constancy. The mercy of the Lord's incarnation lies precisely in this — that even a small effort, made with faith and purity, bears full fruit.
