अनुवाद
And this great knowledge stands firmly established in the three worlds; the twice-born preserve it both in expanded and in condensed form. Adorned with beautiful words, with divine and human expressions, endowed with various poetic meters, it is dear to the learned.

The Mahabharata is called “great knowledge” (mahaj jñānam), established in all three worlds and carefully preserved by the brahmins in both detailed and condensed form. This points to its transcendent nature: the truth is not bound to any single telling or length. It is “adorned with beautiful words” and meters, but the beauty of its language is not an end in itself — it is a garment for meaning, making sacred knowledge attractive to the heart. And it is “dear to the learned” (viduṣāṃ priyam): people endowed with discernment treasure it not for its outer form but because it leads to the Lord. Knowledge (jñāna) here is not dry speculation or impersonal contemplation, but insight crowned by devotion; this is precisely why it is called “great.”
