यदाश्रौषं भीष्मम् अत्यन्तशूरं ।
हतं पार्थेनाहवेष्व् अप्रधृष्यम् ।
शिखण्डिनं पुरतः स्थापयित्वा ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

अनुवाद
"When I heard that Bhishma, immeasurably valiant and unassailable in battles, was slain by Partha (Arjuna), who had placed Shikhandin before himself — then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."

Even the unconquerable Bhishma fell — by the Lord's design, through Shikhandin placed in front. When the Supreme appoints the hour, even the greatest cannot stand. The fall of the invincible is a sign that the outcome is directed not by human might but by the Lord's will: He, the master of life and death, removes at the appointed hour any obstacle in the path of dharma. Thus Krishna fulfills His word to protect His devotees and restore righteousness.
