यदाश्रौषं मामकानां वरिष्ठान् ।
धनंजयेनैकरथेन भग्नान् ।
विराटराष्ट्रे वसता महात्मना ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

When I heard that the best of my warriors were routed by Dhananjaya (Arjuna) alone, on a single chariot, while the great-souled one was dwelling in the kingdom of Virata—then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory.

During the cattle-raid (go-grahana), Arjuna alone, on a single chariot, puts to flight the whole Kuru army—its finest warriors. One devotee, endowed with the Lord's grace, surpasses countless hosts: for his strength lies not in numbers but in the Almighty. Dhritarashtra sees clearly: where Arjuna is, there is Krishna, and hence his sons' defeat is certain.
