"These are your sons and brothers, your disciples and friends: here they are, the Pandavas" — having said this, the sages then vanished.

The sages entrust the Pandavas to the Kuru line through every bond of kinship — as sons, brothers, disciples, and friends — and immediately disappear. Just as Vyasa before, having fulfilled his duty, withdrew to his austerities, so too these holy men, their task done, do not linger for honor but depart. Here is an image of the disinterested service of the sadhus: they establish devotees in their rightful place and vanish, seeking neither recognition nor reward. The miraculous disappearance of the sages points to their transcendent nature. And the listing of every relation reminds us: the Pandavas belong to the family of dharma and must be received with love.
