यदाश्रौषम् अभिमन्युं निहत्य ।
हर्षान् मूढान् क्रोशतो धार्तराष्ट्रान् ।
क्रोधं मुक्तं सैन्धवे चार्जुनेन ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

"When I heard that, having slain Abhimanyu, the sons of Dhritarashtra grew mad with joy and cried out — and that Arjuna turned his wrath upon Saindhava (Jayadratha) — then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."

Blinded by joy over a vile killing, the Kauravas exult — and thereby hasten their own end, while Arjuna's grief and righteous anger turn upon Jayadratha, guilty of Abhimanyu's death. The anger of a devotee, unlike the malice of the wicked, is righteous: it is directed at defending dharma and avenging trampled justice, and the Lord Himself will help fulfill his vow. Thus the unrighteous triumph of the wicked becomes the beginning of their reckoning.
