यदाभिमन्युं परिवार्य बालं ।
सर्वे हत्वा हृष्टरूपा बभूवुः ।
महारथाः पार्थम् अशक्नुवन्तस् ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

"When I heard that, unable to overcome Partha (Arjuna), the great chariot-warriors surrounded the young Abhimanyu, slew him together, and exulted — then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."
