यदाश्रौषं सैन्धवार्थे प्रतिज्ञां ।
प्रतिज्ञातां तद्वधायार्जुनेन ।
सत्यां निस्तीर्णां शत्रुमध्ये च तेन ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

"When I heard that the vow Arjuna had taken to slay Saindhava (Jayadratha) came true and was carried out by him in the very midst of the enemy — then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."

Arjuna fulfills the vow he made — to slay Jayadratha before sunset — and accomplishes it in the very thick of the enemy. With the Lord's help, a devotee's word never falls empty: Krishna Himself arranged it (veiling the sun) so that His devotee's vow would come true. The Lord safeguards the truthfulness of those dear to Him, making their word unfailing. Thus satya — truth upheld by the Supreme — reveals itself.
