अनुवाद

Once, the assembled divine sages placed the four Vedas on one side of a scale, and the one 'Bharata' on the other; and it outweighed them both in greatness and in weight. Because of its greatness (mahattva) and its weightiness (bharavattva), it is called the 'Mahabharata.' Whoever knows this etymology of its name is freed from all sins.
