यश् चैनं श्रावयेच् छ्राद्धे ब्राह्मणान् पादम् अन्ततः ।
अक्षय्यम् अन्नपानं तत् पितॄंस् तस्योपतिष्ठति ॥

And to whoever, at the memorial rite (shraddha), reads aloud to brahmins even a quarter of this [text], the offerings of food and drink become, for his ancestors, inexhaustible.

Reading even part of the 'Bharata' to brahmins at the shraddha rite makes the memorial offerings to the ancestors inexhaustible. The holy word about the Lord sanctifies every good act and multiplies its fruit many times over. This points to the exceptional power of hari-katha: joined to the rite of honoring the ancestors and the brahmins, it brings benefit not only to the living but also to the departed. Thus care for the ancestors, sanctified by the word about the Supreme, gains an enduring effect.
