यदाश्रौषं द्वारकायां सुभद्रां ।
प्रसह्योढां माधवीम् अर्जुनेन ।
इन्द्रप्रस्थं वृष्णिवीरौ च यातौ ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

"When I heard that in Dvaraka Arjuna forcibly took Subhadra, kinswoman of Madhava, as his wife, and that the two heroes of the Vrishni line (Krishna and Balarama) had gone to Indraprastha -- then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope for victory."

Arjuna takes Subhadra, Krishna's sister, as his wife, and thereby becomes kin to the Lord's own family; and Krishna and Balarama arrive in Indraprastha. The Pandavas' bond with Krishna grows stronger -- now it is a bond of blood as well. Dhritarashtra's despair is not without cause: when one's enemies are joined to the Lord Himself by ties of kinship and friendship, their victory is foreordained. Closeness to Krishna -- even through family -- is the very source of the devotees' invincibility.
