Despite the wise counsel of Vidura, Bhishma, Drona, and Kripa, the warriors, gripped by hatred, slew one another. When good counsel rooted in dharma -- above all the counsel of Vidura, a great devotee -- is rejected, ruin follows inevitably. The mutual slaughter of the kshatriyas is both the ripened fruit of adharma and the means by which the Lord lightens the earth's burden. To heed the word of the saintly (sadhu-vakya) is the path of deliverance; to reject it is the path of self-destruction.
