यदाश्रौषं कलहद्यूतमूलं ।
मायाबलं सौबलं पाण्डवेन ।
हतं संग्रामे सहदेवेन पापं ।
तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥

अनुवाद
"When I heard that the wicked Saubala (Shakuni) -- the root of the quarrel and the dice game, whose strength lay only in deceit -- was slain in battle by the Pandava Sahadeva -- then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory."

Shakuni, the very root of the whole strife -- the one who set in motion the fateful dice game and whose only 'strength' was treachery -- falls at Sahadeva's hand. The source of adharma is uprooted. Deceit brings no lasting gain: one whose 'strength' is cunning and fraud will in the end fall victim to the very evil he sowed. So the law of retribution unfolds under the Lord's watch: the seed of treachery bears the fruit of ruin for the one who planted it.
