अनुवाद
When I heard that, as the son of Drona (Ashvatthama) hurled his great weapon at the embryo in the womb of Virata's daughter (Uttara), Dvaipayana (Vyasa) and Keshava (Krishna) cursed him, one after the other — [then I lost hope].

For this monstrous assault on the unborn, Lord Keshava Himself, together with Vyasa, curses Ashvatthama. The Lord is not indifferent to a crime against the defenseless: He Himself pronounces the sentence on the wicked — and He Himself protects the embryo, the future Parikshit, not letting the line of His devotees perish. Two faces of the divine appear here together: fearsome retribution against evil and tender protection of devotees. Whoever raises a hand against those dear to the Lord draws His curse upon himself.
