अथ यत् प्रथमोदिते सः प्रस्तावः तत् अस्य मनुष्याः अन्वायत्ताः तस्मात् ते प्रस्तुतिकामाः प्रशंसाकामाः प्रस्तावभाजिनः हि एतस्य साम्नः

अनुवाद
Now what is at the first rising — that is the prastāva; with it men are bound up; therefore they crave to be extolled and praised — for they have a share in the prastāva of this sāman.

The second beat: yat prathamodite sa prastāvaḥ — "the first rising is the prastāva" (the day's setting-forth!); tad asya manuṣyā anvāyattāḥ — "with it men are bound up": tasmāt te prastuti-kāmāḥ praśaṁsā-kāmāḥ — "therefore they crave pra-clamation and pra-ise": the play of roots is faultless: prastāva — pra-stuti — pra-śaṁsā: men are creatures of the setting-forth: they need to be "struck up", announced, commended!
Humanity is diagnosed with a smile and without condemnation: the thirst for recognition is not a vice but a part: man is bound to the prastāva, to the hour of first light, when everything is announced and begun. One who knows this masters his hunger for glory as a singer masters his opening: he lets it sound at its own hour and does not let it fill the whole song: the day has five more beats, and the best are still to come.
