The fourth parable is acted out in dialogue, like a little drama: the banyan fruit — the seeds — the split seed — "nothing". The nyagrodha is chosen with genius: from a giant of a tree, whose branches let down roots and become a grove, comes a seed like a poppy grain, and in the seed, to the eye, emptiness.
"Nothing, sir," says the youth, and this is an honest report of his sight. But it is precisely here that the father was leading: to the frontier where the eye goes off duty. Everything huge grows out of the invisible; the force that holds up a grove does not show itself at the split of a seed. The instrument by which a thing was taken apart is not the one by which its essence is seen — and the father will now name the one that is.
