The second link: yo vai sa bahirdhā puruṣād ākāśaḥ ayaṁ vāva sa yo 'yam antaḥ puruṣa ākāśaḥ — "that outer space is the very one that is within a man": the sky without and the expanse within are one space, not two: skin does not divide the ākāśa.
Again the verse breaks off on a threshold — "and that which is within…": the chain draws deeper: within a man there is something yet more inward. The rhythm of the three links is like an in-breath, a pause, an out-breath: outside — within — and now: in the heart.
