अथ यदि सामतः रिष्येत् स्वः स्वाहा इति आहवनीये जुहुयात् साम्नाम् एव तत् रसेन साम्नाम् वीर्येण साम्नाम् यज्ञस्य विरिष्टम् संदधाति

If the sacrifice is damaged on the side of the sāmans, let him make an oblation in the āhavanīya fire with the words "svar, svāhā!" — thus by the sap of the sāmans, by the power of the sāmans, he heals the sāman-wound of the sacrifice.

The third drop: a wound from the sāmans is healed by the syllable "svar" through the āhavanīya — the eastern fire that carries the offering up to the gods. And again the chain is faultless: the sāmans were pressed from the sun, the sun is the sap of heaven, and the syllable of heaven is svaḥ. Three wounds, three fires, three syllables: the sacrifice's pharmacy is complete.
For a singers' upaniṣad, as the whole Chāndogya is, this line sounds especially personal: a song too can wound if it is sung with a flaw — and a song too has its healing. The gift of speech, the gift of sound, is not abolished by a mistake; it is healed by a return to its own sun — to the source out of which the singing was pressed. It remains only to bring the three drops together — which the parable of gold and salt will do.
