ते वै एते गुह्याः आदेशाः एतत् ब्रह्म अभ्यतपन् तस्य अभितप्तस्य यशः तेजः इन्द्रियम् वीर्यम् अन्नाद्यम् रसः अजायत

These very secret instructions brooded upon this Brahman; from it, so brooded upon, its sap was born: glory, splendour, power of the senses, might, and food.

The upper bees at their labour: the secret instructions "brood upon Brahman" — the boldest of expressions: the contemplation of the Upaniṣads is a tapas turned upon Him — and out of that brooding the sap comes forth: the same five goods, but now from the Flower of flowers itself.
To "brood upon Brahman" means to hold Him in the heat of unremitting attention (upāsana!): He does not change under our heat — our capacity does: a Presence warmed by contemplation begins to give up its sweetness, as a comb does near a fire. The fifth vein works in everyone who attends to the secret word with fervour — and its honey will now take its royal place.
