आप्नोति इह आदित्यस्य जयम् परः ह अस्य आदित्यजयात् जयः भवति यः एतत् एवम् विद्वान् आत्मसंमितम् अतिमृत्यु सप्तविधम् सामोपास्ते सामोपास्ते

He attains here the sun's victory; and higher than the sun's victory is his victory — the victory of him who, knowing this thus, venerates the sevenfold sāman that is commensurate with itself and passes beyond death — venerates the sāman.

The close of the series: āpnotīhādityasya jayam — "he attains the victory of the sun" (all that the luminary conquers in its course is his); paro hāsyāditya-jayāj jayo bhavati — "and his victory is higher than the sun's victory": the twenty-second syllable carries him past the highest of the visible world's victories.
The doubled sāmopāste is the seal of the whole adhyāya on the sevenfold. Let us look back over the road: concord as goodness; the fivefold sāman in the worlds, in rain, in the waters, in the year, in the cattle, in the prāṇas; the sevenfold in speech, in the day-sun, in the syllabic count up to the twenty-second, the death-transcending one. One science runs through it all: being is built as a song, and one who knows its members ascends by it — to the sun and past the sun, into the sorrowless. There remains the adhyāya's last part (the khaṇḍas that follow): the famous sāmans — gāyatra, rathantara, bṛhat — woven into life; and the first of them has already sounded: the gāyatra in the prāṇas.
