Then he asked Indradyumna Bhāllaveya: "Vaiyāghrapadya, whom do you venerate as the ātman?" — "The wind, reverend king," he said. — "Of many paths is that Vaiśvānara-ātman whom you venerate. Hence gifts come to you by many paths, and rows of chariots follow after you by many paths.

The third answer is the wind. The name of this veneration is pṛthag-vartmā, "He who goes by different roads": the wind has no single road; it comes from everywhere. And the fruit is exact to the point of a smile: to the venerator, gifts and files of chariots flow in "by different roads" — a wealth of many channels, like the wind itself.
The sixfold lesson gradually shows through: each venerated image answers its venerator with its own character. Heaven gives the family radiance, the sun variegation, the wind an inflow from every side. A deity responds in the currency in which it is conceived — ye yathā māṁ prapadyante (BG 4.11) in action. All the more important, then, whom you conceive: he who venerates a part receives partially; to one who venerates the Whole, the Whole responds.
