The southern load has settled as white: śuklaṁ rūpam — the sun's "white appearance" — the honey of the Yajur-veda: the luminary's daytime whiteness is the condensed sap of the rite.
White is the colour of noon's clarity and of sacrificial purity: the formulas of the yajus, exact and unadulterated, have laid themselves into the sun as its most even light. The spectrum keeps gathering: the dawn from the hymns, the whiteness from the rite; ahead lie the dark layers — and they too will prove to be honey.
