He who, dwelling in the seed, is within the seed, whom the seed does not know, whose body is the seed, who rules the seed from within — he is your ātman, the Inner Ruler, the immortal. Unseen, he is the seer; unheard, the hearer; unthought, the thinker; unknown, the knower. There is no other seer but he, no other hearer but he, no other thinker but he, no other knower but he. He is your ātman, the Inner Ruler, the immortal. Everything else is affliction." And Uddālaka Āruṇi fell silent.

The last "body" of the series is seed, the beginning of every future life: the Ruler rules even what is not yet born; all the heredity of the world is in His hand. Twenty-one vestures have been listed — from dust to seed, from the sun to knowing: there is no point at which He is not the inner one, and no point that knows Him.
And the close of the brāhmaṇa joins the two great formulas of the tournament: adṛṣṭo draṣṭā — "unseen, the seer; unheard, the hearer…" (the answer to Uṣasta, 3.4.2) — and the fourfold nānyo 'to 'sti — "there is no other seer but he": the Witness in all witnesses is one. The antaryāmin and the ātman-Witness are not two: He who rules the earth and the seed from within is the same who is looking now out of your eyes. The Gītā will say it in one line: sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭaḥ — "I have entered into the heart of everyone; from Me come memory, knowledge and their loss" (BG 15.15), and the Paramātmā of the Gauḍīya siddhānta is the direct name of the hero of this brāhmaṇa.
"Everything else is affliction" is the third seal of the same truth, and Uddālaka, the father of "tat tvam asi", falls silent satisfied: the thread and the Ruler have been named; the knower who drove off the cows has proved to be within his rights.
