The lifting of the cup comes with a prayer for power: āmaṁsi — "you are strength-and-might", and the petition: "He is king, lord, ruler (rājā īśāno 'dhipatiḥ) — may he make me the same…". Note the theology of the gesture: greatness is asked not of the drink but of Him, the King, by whose power the cup is full; the mantha is the means, the Lord the giver.
So the rite of desire remains a piety: even when asking for power, the Vedic man asks it of Power, acknowledging the source. A desire offered with a bow is already half purified.
