As, when a king arrives, the nobles, the officers, the charioteers and the village heads make ready food, drink and lodgings: "He is coming! He is arriving!" — so for one who knows this all beings make ready: "Brahman is coming! Brahman is arriving!"

The third image turns the whole scene of death upside down: the arrival of a king! When a sovereign approaches a settlement, the whole service is on its feet: food, drink, lodgings — "he is coming! he is arriving!" So, says Yājñavalkya, "all beings" make ready to receive the dying knower: idaṁ brahmāyāti — "Brahman is coming!"
The death of a knower is not an eviction but a royal progress: the worlds along the route make ready the chambers. What a change of optics: from a bier to a king's train! And the ground is strict: the knower has recognised in himself the One to whom everything belongs — and everything recognises in him its Master. For bhakti this is a picture of a devotee's departure: he is met by those who have come out to greet him; the tradition has always described the death of saints as a meeting with honours.
