देवभ्राट् तनयस् तस्य तस्मात् सुभ्राड् इति स्मृतः ॥

译文
Divasputra, Brihadbhanu, Chakshus, Atma, Vibhavasu, Savita, Richika, Arka, Bhanu, Ashavaha, and Ravi — all of them were sons of Vivasvat; the youngest among them was Mahya. His son was Devabhraj, and from him, as is known, came Subhraj.

The genealogy now begins — a descending line of generations from Vivasvat, the sun god. At first glance this looks like a dry list of names, but in the Vedic tradition genealogies carry deep meaning: they preserve the continuity of dharma and prepare the ground for the Lord and His eternal companions to appear within a lineage pleasing to Him. Through Vivasvat knowledge itself is transmitted: in the Bhagavad-gita (4.1) Krishna says that he first taught the science of yoga to Vivasvat, who then taught it to Manu. Already here, then, a sacred line is being traced, from which in time will spring the houses of Kuru, Yadu, and Bharata — the stage for the future deeds of Lord Krishna.
