Because of his quarrel with Bhishma, Karna refuses to fight and leaves the army. The camp of adharma splits from within: pride and mutual enmity strip it of unity and strength. Thus a law is laid bare: where envy and arrogance rule, there is no concord, and without concord there is no victory. The side that has turned away from the Lord collapses of its own accord — it is destroyed not only by its enemies but by its own vices.
