"Listen, then, O Sanjaya, to all that I have learned, and however I learned it; and hearing my words, reasonably composed and true, you will know, O son of the suta, that I am one who sees with the eye of wisdom."

Dhritarashtra calls himself "one who sees with the eye of wisdom" (prajna-cakshus) -- as though reason made up for his bodily blindness. But there is bitter irony here: his own lament betrays that he is blind within as well -- he saw the truth (verse 98), yet, bound by attachment, could not act upon it. The true "eye of wisdom" is to see everything in relation to the Lord and act accordingly (jnana-cakshus); mere intellectual understanding without surrender to God is not yet true sight. This verse opens the long litany of "when I heard... I lost hope," in which all of Dhritarashtra's "wisdom" amounts to a belated confession: where dharma rests on Krishna, victory is inescapable.
