译文
When I heard that my own sons, devoted to Karna's counsel, having gone on the cattle-expedition (ghosha-yatra), were captured by the gandharvas and freed by Arjuna—then, O Sanjaya, I lost hope of victory.

Duryodhana, captured by the gandharvas, is rescued by none other than Arjuna—the very one he hates. Here is the greatness of the devotee: he generously delivers even his enemies from distress, bearing no grudge. Thus the nobility born of devotion shows itself; and all the more glaring is the baseness of the envious man, repaid good for enmity. Dhritarashtra sees that even his sons' rescue lies in the hands of the Pandavas.
