In Maya's wondrous palace Duryodhana, deceived by its illusions (mistaking crystal for water and water for floor), stumbled and was mocked — in the very presence of Krishna. The envious man, blinded by pride, cannot see things as they are: illusion (maya) confounds precisely the arrogant. His disgrace before Vasudeva foreshadows the fate of all who oppose the Lord: enmity toward Him ends in humiliation. Here is the turning point at which Duryodhana's envy hardens into enmity — and it happens before the eyes of the Lord, who invisibly guides the course of events.
