译文
He rules over the worlds that are on this side, and over the desires of men. Therefore those who sing to the vīṇā sing of him — and thereby they are rich.

The dominions of the Puruṣa in the eye: sa eṣa ye caitasmād arvāñco lokās teṣāṁ ceṣṭe manuṣya-kāmānāṁ ca — "he rules the worlds on this side and the desires of men": a division of labour between the two thrones of one Lord: the solar face rules the transcendent and the divine (verse 1.6.8), the ocular the here and the human: one sovereignty in two audience-chambers.
And an unexpected bow to art: tad ye ime vīṇāyāṁ gāyanti etaṁ te gāyanti — "those who sing to the vīṇā sing of him": tasmāt te dhana-sanayaḥ — "and therefore they win wealth": every song to a lute — whether the singer knows it or not — is addressed to the Puruṣa in the listeners' eyes! All the music of the world is an involuntary liturgy; and that is why it feeds those who sing: art lives from His table. This hallowing of secular song is a gesture of astonishing breadth: there is no song outside His hearing; there are only singers who know, and singers who do not know, to Whom they sing.
