译文
He who thus knows this rathantara woven into fire becomes radiant with sacred lustre and an eater of food, attains the full span of life, lives in brightness, is great in offspring and cattle, great in fame. Let him neither sip nor spit facing the fire: that is the vow.

The fruit of the fire-sāman: brahma-varcasī — "radiant with brahmic lustre": one who venerates fire acquires a shining of his own (the faces of those who have known fire from within do shine — an ancient observation!); the other gifts follow the series' formula: long life, offspring, fame.
And the vow is a fire-etiquette: na pratyaṅṅ agnim ācāmen na niṣṭhīvet — "let him not sip or spit facing the fire": before that in which a great sāman is woven one does nothing base: a mouth turned to the fire is for mantra and breath alone. The vows of the series train the one essential thing: reverence toward the bearer of the melody: an element in which a song has been recognised ceases to be a "convenience" and becomes an altar — and daily life in its presence straightens of itself.
