समाने तृप्यति मनस् तृप्यति मनसि तृप्यति पर्जन्यः तृप्यति पर्जन्ये तृप्यति विद्युत् तृप्यति विद्युति तृप्यन्त्याम् यत् किंच विद्युत् च पर्जन्यः च अधितिष्ठतः तत् तृप्यति तस्य अनु तृप्तिम् तृप्यति प्रजया पशुभिः अन्नाद्येन तेजसा ब्रह्मवर्चसेन इति
samāne tṛpyati manas tṛpyati manasi tṛpyati parjanyaḥ tṛpyati parjanye tṛpyati vidyut tṛpyati vidyuti tṛpyantyām yat kiṃca vidyut ca parjanyaḥ ca adhitiṣṭhataḥ tat tṛpyati tasya anu tṛptim tṛpyati prajayā paśubhiḥ annādyena tejasā brahmavarcasena iti
When the samāna is satisfied, the mind is satisfied; when the mind is satisfied, Parjanya is satisfied; when Parjanya is satisfied, the lightning is satisfied; when the lightning is satisfied, everything is satisfied that stands under the lightning and Parjanya. And after their satisfaction he himself is satisfied — with offspring, cattle, food, vigour and the lustre of Brahman.

The fourth chain: samāna → mind → the thundering sky → lightning. The mind is akin to a thunderstorm: it gathers like a cloud and decides like lightning, in an instantaneous flash; the Upaniṣads more than once compare a flash of insight to summer lightning (Kena 4.4). A balanced samāna makes a clear mind — everyone who has fasted and everyone who has overeaten knows this connection by experience.
And again a particular chain empties into the general blessing: offspring, cattle, food, vigour, brahma-varcas. The five formulas of satisfaction all end alike, for all five chains have one source and one estuary — a life given away and returned with increase.
