Then, stepping back and taking the drink in his cupped hands, he murmurs: "Your name is Ama; with you is all this gathered. He is the eldest, the best, the king and supreme lord. May he lead me to seniority, to excellence, to kingship and lordship. May I be all this!"

The rite's culmination is the japa, a murmur over the cupped hands. The drink is addressed by name: Ama, "the One who holds all with him": amā in Vedic means "with, together", and the prayer at once plays upon it: amā hi te sarvam idam — "with you is all this". In a cup that has gathered all the herbs and all the oblations, the suppliant holds the image of Him with whom all things are.
The prayer climbs by degrees: "the eldest, the best, the king and supreme lord" (rājādhipati). This is no longer the physiology of breath — it is a confession of the Sovereign of life. And the petition is rightly framed: "may he lead me" (gamayatu) — greatness is not seized but bestowed; the petitioner asks not for strength to grasp but for the mercy of being raised. The closing "may I be all this" is not a wish to swallow the world but to enter the fullness of life in the presence of Him who holds it: a king's servant shares in the kingdom — not by the throne but by nearness.
