译文
You eat food and see what is dear; he eats food and sees what is dear, and the lustre of Brahman is in the family of one who venerates this Vaiśvānara-ātman thus. But this is only the head of the ātman," he said. "Your head would have fallen off had you not come to me."

The formula of assessment, which will be repeated six times: the venerator "eats food and sees what is dear" — his life is full and savoury, and brahma-varcasa shines in his family. But then comes the correction, and it is terrible: "this is only the head of the ātman. Your head would have fallen off had you not come to me."
Why such a threat for a pious veneration? Because a part taken for the whole takes its revenge precisely through the member by which it is venerated: one who has taken heaven — the Vaiśvānara's "head" — for the whole God carries on his shoulders what he does not understand, and one day the burden would have torn his head off. Every absolutising of a particular — of light, of knowledge, of power — strikes at the very place by which a man clung to it. The rescue lies in coming to one who knows the whole: the road to the teacher has itself already lifted the impending blow. So the king teaches: the veneration of the parts is not abolished but set into the Whole — and then head, eye and breath become not idols but members of a Body.
