He who venerates comprehension as Brahman attains worlds of comprehension and knowledge, and is free to move as he wishes everywhere that comprehension reaches." — "Sir, is there anything greater than comprehension?" — "There is something greater than comprehension." — "Tell it to me, sir."

The reward is "worlds of comprehension and knowledge": the spheres of the wise, the abodes of clarity. For the learned Nārada this might seem his native summit — and yet he asks further, faithful to his unquenchable instinct: if a question can be asked, there is something to ask about.
The teacher's answer will be deliberately sobering: above comprehension he will set… strength. Sanatkumāra's ladder is not afraid to descend, apparently, "downward" — to the bodily — in order to show that the most refined has coarse conditions of possibility. A humbling turn: wisdom rests on health as a lamp rests on oil.
