He who venerates heat as Brahman, being himself radiant, attains radiant worlds, bright, from which darkness has been driven out, and is free to move as he wishes everywhere that heat reaches." — "Sir, is there anything greater than heat?" — "There is something greater than heat." — "Tell it to me, sir."

The reward of heat is after its own image: radiance and worlds "from which darkness has been driven out" (apahata-tamaska). One who venerates light grows luminous himself — the law of correspondence, familiar since the fourth chapter (4.5.3), operates along the whole ladder.
But light too burns in something: a flame needs room. Above heat the teacher will set space, the container of the luminaries themselves. The ascent continues: from what shines to that within which it shines.
